From January 2026, we are splitting the subsidy scheme for bus stops. This makes applying simpler and clearer. The compensation for adjusting bus stops and the walking and cycling routes to them has also increased from 50% to 75%.

The current scheme Accessible bus stops is now split into 2 new schemes:

For applications submitted before 1 January 2026, the old rules still apply.

For applications submitted before 1 January 2026, the old rules still apply.

Creating and removing bus stops

This scheme is for adjustments to a bus stop based on a new transport plan. It concerns:

  • building a new bus stop;
  • extending a bus stop, for example for longer buses;
  • removing a bus stop if it is no longer served.

This scheme applies to all new bus stops included in the transport plan. The compensation is up to 100% of the costs.

Adjusting bus stops

This scheme is for improving bus stops and the walking and cycling routes to them. These are measures that make the bus stop safer, more comfortable and more accessible. The subsidy amounts to a maximum of 75% of the costs, up to € 150,000 per bus stop.

Important to know

The subsidies can be applied for by Rijkswaterstaat, municipalities and water boards.

An AERIUS calculation is required for an advance payment. If there is nitrogen deposition (the precipitation of nitrogen), the subsidy is only granted after the work has been carried out.

In the summer, additional measures will be added to scheme 4.17 ‘Adjusting bus stops’ to improve the accessibility of bus stops.
