Together with municipalities, water boards, and grid operators, we are looking for suitable locations for generating sustainable energy. The plans for this are outlined per region in a Regional Energy Strategy (RES). In 2021, the first global search areas were established in RES 1.0. The RES partners are now working on the implementation and renewal of these plans. The Stedendriehoek region has now renewed its strategy. More information can be found in the Regional Energy Supply Program (RPE).
The Energy World is Changing
The RPE outlines how much sustainable electricity the region will generate by 2035. The ambition is to implement this as quickly as possible after 2030, and no later than 2035. Consideration has been given to the rapidly changing energy world. Where energy used to come from large coal and gas-fired power plants, we are now focusing on locally and sustainably generated energy. Everyone plays a role: residents, businesses, grid operators, governments, and civil society organizations. More and more people are generating their own electricity, or storing it, for example with solar panels, charging stations, or home batteries.
Affordable, Sustainable, and Reliable
The Stedendriehoek region is working on an energy supply that is affordable, reliable, and sustainable. The Regional Energy Supply Program (RPE) therefore looks at the entire energy system: supply and demand, storage, and flexible use of energy. The question concerns what we need for our homes, transportation, and businesses, now and in the future. For generating energy, we consider all sources such as solar, wind, heat, biogas, hydrogen, and nuclear energy.
Responding to the Draft Plan
The draft of the Regional Energy Supply Program can be viewed from May 26 to July 6, 2025. During this period, you can submit feedback. At www.regiostedendriehoek.nl/rpe you can find the program, the accompanying documents, and instructions on how to submit feedback.
Follow-Up
The received feedback will be collected and addressed in a feedback note. This note will also indicate whether the feedback has led to adjustments in the program. Later this year (2025), the municipal councils in the region and the Provincial States will decide on the RPE.
