We ask Veolia to urgently take measures for the health of their own employees and the surrounding community. GGD Gelderland-Midden has found a high concentration of legionella bacteria at Veolias wastewater treatment plant.

This was reason for the Environmental Service region Arnhem (ODRA) to instruct the company to immediately take measures to prevent the spread of legionella. The ODRA supervises on behalf of the province (the permit issuer).

Wastewater

There are several companies at the Kleefse Waard Industrial Park that discharge wastewater to the wastewater treatment facility in question. It is possible that the wastewater from one of these companies has a high temperature (warmer than 25 ºC), which allows legionella to occur in high concentrations. Legionella arises when the legionella bacteria can multiply in stagnant water with a temperature between 25 and 55 ºC.

Additional Research

Additional research is needed to more accurately trace the source of this contamination.
