28,000 New Homes in Gelderland
The cabinet is investing a total of €2.5 billion in the construction of roads, bike paths, tunnels, and tram lines that make new residential areas accessible. Additionally, the cabinet is allocating another €877 million for necessary area-specific measures for housing projects, such as soil remediation, water and soil measures, and solutions for the overloaded power grid. We receive €521 million. This allows us to provide 28,000 additional homes in Gelderland. We expect construction to start within a few years.
Accessibility and Housing
Veluwelijn: €98.7 million
Trains on the Veluwelijn must be able to turn around in Harderwijk. This is necessary to allow the intercity from the Randstad to continue to Nijkerk and Harderwijk in the future. This will enable more trains to run between Amersfoort, Nijkerk, and Harderwijk. It results in shorter travel times and more seats. It significantly improves the accessibility of the Amersfoort, Foodvalley, and North Veluwe regions.
VeluweWaalpad: €64.7 million
The VeluweWaalpad receives over €64 million from the national government. It is a comfortable, fast, and safe cycling route connecting residential and work locations on the west side of Arnhem and Nijmegen. We are improving the route and building a cycling bridge over the Rhine near Arnhem.
Doorfietsroute Foodvalley: €43.2 million
Thousands of new homes are being built in the Foodvalley region. The cycling route between Wageningen, Ede, and Barneveld provides a comfortable and fast connection for commuters and students. Investments in this bike path encourage people to cycle, reduce traffic jams on the A12, and improve accessibility to this economic top region.
Spoorzone Arnhem-East: €138 million
With €138 million, the second phase of Rijnpark and Spoorzone Arnhem-East is being developed. The railway yard (NS emplacement) is being relocated, the soil is being prepared for housing construction, and public spaces are being improved. New cycling connections and public transport facilities for future residents are also being added.
BSK Area Apeldoorn: €17.5 million
Apeldoorn faces a major challenge in joint area development near the city center, railway zone, and canal zone (BSK). It is positive that the national government is already making €17.5 million available to start housing construction. Further development of the BSK area in Apeldoorn requires the next step from the new cabinet. Currently, there is no funding for mobility in this area; the topic is on the coalition negotiation table.
Continuing Accessible Housing
With these investments, we can make many homes in Gelderland accessible. Concerns remain, for example about the Nijmegen-Eindhoven route and the A1-Hoevelaken bottleneck. In the coming period, we will use the €521 million from the national government wisely. See an overview of all (Gelderland) projects.
