Outdoor Recreation Becoming Increasingly Popular
There is an increasing need to spend leisure time. Together with other societal challenges, such as the housing crisis, this creates greater pressure on space. We want to ensure that there is enough space for recreational opportunities while protecting natural and cultural riches. Recreation and tourism will therefore be included in the provincial environmental vision (a plan for how an area should look and be used in the future). This means that recreation and tourism will always be taken into account in spatial plans regarding housing construction, nature, water, agriculture, and mobility.
Diverse Offering
Due to rising maintenance costs and sustainability, facilities for recreation are under pressure. Therefore, we encourage future-oriented, sustainable development of the tourism and recreation offering. We also make choices about different types of recreation and tourism offerings. This way, everyone in Gelderland can use recreational opportunities, regardless of background or income.
Investments in Recreation and Tourism
To develop these goals, €1.3 million annually and an additional €7.8 million are available. The money goes, among other things, to research and data, the Gelderland Regions campaign, and activities of the Regional Tourism Offices and route partners.
