And successfully. As of April 2024, we made a total of €3.2 million available. Of this, nearly €2.7 million has now been used - until early May 2025.
23,000 vulnerable animals protected and over 5000 less vulnerable animals
Due to the subsidy initiated, more than 23,000 sheep and goats (the most vulnerable animal groups) are better protected against potential wolf attacks. But also over 5,000 cattle, horses, donkeys, and ponies received extra protection. In total, there are about 700 subsidy applications that have been assessed and granted.
Success of the scheme also brings an empty subsidy pot in sight
Prevention, the prevention of wolf attacks, is one of the main goals of the Gelderland wolf policy Limits to the wolf in Gelderland. Due to the success of the scheme, the bottom of the subsidy pot is also coming into sight more quickly. We are currently exploring the possibilities to prevent the pot from running out. And to ensure that animal holders can still receive support. More information about the subsidy can be read on this webpage.
