We agree to kill a problem wolf that has already killed at least 60 sheep in Voorthuizen (municipality of Barneveld). The wolf jumped over a properly installed wolf-proof fence nearly 20 times in 2 months this summer to reach the sheep.
Problem Wolf
According to the National Wolf Plan, the provincial Wolf Management Plan, and the Wolf Plan of the joint provinces, a wolf that attacks sheep behind proper fences more than twice in two weeks is considered a problem wolf. Because other measures are expected to be insufficient to change the behavior, the province has chosen to have that animal shot.
Process
A so-called custom regulation has been issued to the Faunabeheereenheid Gelderland for the shooting of the wolf. There is the possibility of objection and appeal against this decision. The Faunabeheereenheid must wait 5 days after publication before the decision can be executed. This is to allow objectors to apply for a provisional measure with the court if necessary.
