The Fauna Management Unit has until 1 July 2026 to kill the wolf. We are expanding the area where the wolf may be searched for and killed. This now also includes Deelen Air Base. The permit granted in May expires on 31 December of this year.
Recurrence of incidents not excluded
We and involved wolf experts believe that this wolf exhibits non-shy behavior, which once learned remains permanently present. The animal thus poses a permanent danger to people. And it is possible that such incidents may happen again.
The decision to kill a wolf is a serious one. We make this decision with the utmost care. Therefore, the permission is extended for a limited period. We expect that the young adult wolf GW4655m will leave the pack (in the Hoge Veluwe) next year and seek its own territory.
Objection possible
The extension of the permission is recorded in a so-called custom regulation. Because the European rules for wolves have changed and have not yet been incorporated into national laws, we cannot currently issue a permit. You can object to the new decision. This can be done from Thursday 4 December 2025, once the custom regulation has been published.
