We greatly appreciate volunteers. That is why the Leefbaarheidsalliantie organized a special campaign on our behalf. Everyone could nominate a Gelderland volunteer for a special thank you. The first 100 submissions received a small gift at their doorstep. Additionally, on December 5, 2025, we held a festive gathering at the House of the Province in Arnhem. Deputy Dirk Vreugdenhil personally honored 6 volunteers there. They received flowers and a gift.

Why?

Volunteer Day is meant to thank everyone who dedicates themselves to others. Volunteering is indispensable in our Gelderland society. Whether it is supporting sports clubs, protecting nature and heritage, or helping neighbors. Volunteers make a world of difference. It keeps society running and makes our environment more beautiful, humane, and livable.

6 extra special volunteers

We invited 6 volunteers to the House of the Province in Arnhem. They did not know beforehand why they were invited. Upon arrival, it became clear: they were honored for their special efforts. Every volunteer is special. These 6 had their own beautiful story:

  • An 88-year-old man who is ready day and night for the community center in Angeren.
  • A volunteer who not only takes care of the vegetable garden but also helps people by calling them or teaching language lessons.
  • A connector between residents and the municipality.
  • A secretary of the bird club who manages everything.
  • A dedicated volunteer who set up a learning orchestra for volunteers.
  • A man who finds and helps strengthen talents in people at a walk-in center.

To all volunteers in Gelderland: your work and dedication make Gelderland a bit more beautiful. Thank you!
