The Hoogezand-Sappemeer station building and its immediate surroundings have been in poor condition for years. The facilities are outdated and there is deferred maintenance. The station has an unattractive appearance. Train travelers rate the station poorly.

Fresh and Neat Appearance

The renovation and adjustments are necessary to give the station a fresh and neat appearance again. The station building and square will be adapted to meet current standards. Additional facilities will be added to make it a pleasant place for travelers to wait or transfer. When developing the plans, consideration was given to the historical heritage, the use of the building and surroundings, and the budget.

Information Evening

Residents and other interested parties can attend an information evening on Tuesday, November 25, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Brandpunt event center in Sappemeer for an explanation of the plans. Employees of NS and the municipality of Midden-Groningen will be available to show the designs and answer questions. The province is contributing nearly €400,000 to the renovation of the station building and forecourt. Work is expected to start in spring 2026. The station area should be completed by the end of 2026.
