Cyclists between Leek and Groningen ride over three renovated sections. These are the parallel road A7 – Munnikesloot (section C), Matsloot (B), and Hoogkerk – Roderwolderdijk (A).
Concrete and Asphalt
A concrete bike path has been laid near the Hooilanden and Munnikevaart. A new bicycle bridge has been placed over the Munnikesloot. Matsloot and the Roderwolderdijk have been asphalted and designed as bicycle streets. This means cyclists are the main users and cars are guests.
Remaining Work
The work at Matsloot and the Roderwolderdijk is not yet completely finished. At the beginning of 2026, the province will apply markings on the asphalt and connect the bike paths at Matsloot and De Hooilanden. During the work, the bike paths will be closed. The remaining work is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
Official Opening
The renovated bike route is part of the Through Bicycle Route between Leek and Groningen. The official opening of the through bicycle route is planned for spring 2026. By then, the missing section between Nienoord and Lettelbert along the Leekster Hoofddiep should be completed. In 2024, the first part of the Through Bicycle Route, the Hoofdstraat between Midwolde and Lettelbert, was opened.
The Through Bicycle Route makes it easier and safer to cycle between Leek and Groningen.
