Landscape Ecological Research
A strong, healthy nature is rich in various species. All life is interconnected and influences each other. It is therefore important to gain insight into the functioning of the landscape and the nature within it. For this reason, various measurements of the soil and water management in the area will be conducted over the next one and a half years. We also map the plants in the area. If it proves necessary to strengthen nature, measures will be taken.
Smart Drone
For this research, we use a drone. Consultancy AT-KB and Aerial Intelligence carry out the drone research on behalf of the Province of Groningen. The drone is equipped with thermal technology.
Because seepage water is warmer than surface water during the winter period, it becomes clear where seepage flows come from. With this knowledge, a measurement network can then be set up for the research. The drone research ends after January, but the entire research lasts until summer 2027.
Nature Implementation Program
The research is made possible in part by the Nature Implementation Program. This program focuses on restoration measures in and around our nature reserves. The goal is to make Dutch nature stronger and healthier again.
The program is a joint responsibility of the national government and the provinces. In implementation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) and the provinces work together with various partners, including water boards, municipalities, nature managers, and farmers.
