Read the Area Program Veenkoloniën
The partners of the Agenda for the Veenkoloniën and Innovation Veenkoloniën jointly commit to a sustainable, future-proof Veenkoloniën area where agriculture continues to play a prominent role. The area program contains proposals for practical projects, monitoring, and collaboration focused on agricultural development in the Veenkoloniën. The cross-provincial cooperation between governments and chain partners from the agricultural sector has existed for many years in the Veenkoloniën but is unique in the Netherlands.
Area Program Veenkoloniën
The area program runs for five years and consists of three program lines: Future-proof building plan, Targeted management & monitoring, and Rural area. Work is underway on concrete projects such as the future building plan and setting up a measurement system to make the effects of measures on water, soil, and nature transparent. By signing the letter of intent, the parties commit to actually implementing the program.
Collaboration
The Agenda for the Veenkoloniën is a collaboration between the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe, municipalities in the area, and the water boards Hunze and Aa’s and Vechtstromen. Innovation Veenkoloniën is a collaboration of chain and knowledge partners, including Avebe, Cosun, Agrifirm, Wageningen Research, and LTO Noord.
All involved parties signed the letter of intent. Leo Wenneger, agricultural deputy of the province, was present on behalf of the province.
