The Nedersaksen Line provides better connections, more livability, and new opportunities for the economy in Northeastern Netherlands. Once the track is laid, traveling will become easier and faster. Young people can choose from more educational programs, workers have more jobs within reach, and entrepreneurs can find staff and customers more quickly. The railway line also ensures better connections with the rest of the Netherlands. Thus, the railway line contributes to a stronger and more prosperous region.

MIRT Exploration

The MIRT exploration marks the official start of a joint approach in which the national government, provinces, and municipalities investigate how the Nedersaksen Line can be best realized. This involves looking at feasibility, social utility, and possible routes for the rail connection. The end result of this research phase is a preferred decision. This preferred decision should clarify what the best solution is for the entire area.

First Train from Groningen to Enschede

If all procedures are followed, the train will run from Groningen to Twente in ten years at the earliest.

The Province of Groningen is working on the project together with the national government, the provinces of Drenthe and Fryslân, the municipalities along the route, and other regional partners.
