The gardens are more than just a place to grow food. They bring people together. Neighbors meet, work together, and learn from each other. Families with low incomes can participate free of charge. Other participants can join by paying a fee. This creates an engaged and mixed community where everyone is welcome.
Health, exercise, and connection
Each garden supports at least fifty households. Participants are referred through existing networks, such as neighborhood teams or welfare organizations. The gardens contribute to a healthier lifestyle, social connection, and less loneliness. They are places where food, well-being, and participation come together as people meet, share experiences, and build a close community.
Flourishing future
The goal is to establish three social food gardens in the province by 2027. These gardens will be places of growth, literally and figuratively. Groningen chooses a healthy, sustainable, and social future. A future in which everyone can participate.
