Why this scheme?
Wolves occur in Groningen, but so far they do not have a permanent habitat here. Although they mainly eat wild animals, they can also cause damage to livestock. A standard fence then offers insufficient protection. With wolf-resistant fencing, it becomes much more difficult for wolves to reach the livestock. The province therefore supports farmers with the costs.
For whom?
The scheme is intended for private and commercial sheep and goat farmers located in Groningen. A free consultation with the wolf consultant is mandatory for an application. The consultant helps choose the right fence and checks whether the placement is correct.
Subsidy amounts
The subsidy amounts to a minimum of €570 and a maximum of €30,000 per applicant. The amount of compensation depends on the number of meters of fencing and/or the number of sheep or goats the holder had in the past year.
For more information and conditions, please read further on the subsidy page.
For questions or assistance with the application, farmers can contact the general phone number of the Province of Groningen.
