Food Banks

The food banks in Groningen receive subsidies to improve their food supply and make their logistics more sustainable. Due to dependence on food surpluses from other regions – such as through the Vegetable & Fruit Brigade in Nagele – transport costs are increasing. The contribution supports the Regional Distribution Center.

Clothing Bank Maxima

The Maxima Clothing Bank Foundation receives subsidies to strengthen its logistics network. The organization operates in seven municipalities and offers free clothing to residents with low incomes. Approximately 8,000 visitors use this service annually, including about 3,000 children. The contribution covers the costs of the central warehouse in Sappemeer and the delivery van that transports clothing between branches and stores.

Leergeld Foundation

The Leergeld foundations in Groningen receive subsidies to provide learning materials to children from low-income families. The contribution makes it possible to support children in participating in education and helps break the cycle of generational poverty.

Youth Fund Sports and Culture

It is important for children to participate in sports and cultural activities. The Youth Fund makes this possible for many children with support from the province.

With these contributions, the Province of Groningen emphasizes its commitment to a society in which everyone can participate.
