Why a new plan?
In October 2025, the province informed residents, entrepreneurs, and farmers in Zoutkamp about the schedule for the works on the bicycle and pedestrian bridge. Entrepreneurs in Zoutkamp were concerned about the accessibility of the village during the works and the impact on their businesses. Therefore, the province developed four new scenarios aimed at minimizing inconvenience. These scenarios were discussed with residents, entrepreneurs, and farmers from the village. A clear preference emerged from the discussions, and the plan was adjusted accordingly.
Shorter closures of the Reitdiep Bridge
The new plan focuses on the works around the Reitdiep Bridge. A closure of this bridge causes the most inconvenience in the area because there is only a limited detour route available, which results in much extra travel time. In the new plan, the bridge is closed for a total of 3.5 weeks instead of 7 weeks as in the original plan. This reduces the nuisance.
Specifically, the Reitdiep Bridge will be closed from March 2 to 15 and from April 7 to 14, 2026. In the intervening weeks, from March 16 to April 6, the bridge will be open to traffic with a half-lane closure. This way, Zoutkamp remains more accessible during the works. Cyclists and pedestrians can always pass the works.
Other works in Zoutkamp remain unchanged
In addition to the works on the Reitdiep Bridge, the province is also carrying out works on the Hunsingobrug and major maintenance. The schedule for these remains the same for now. The province is investigating whether these works can also be rescheduled to further reduce inconvenience.
Compensation scheme
The province tries to minimize damage caused by the works as much as possible. Entrepreneurs who suffer damage from the closures receive support from the province when applying for compensation. Entrepreneurs who have direct damage can report and prove this to the province. Each application is assessed individually.
Consultation hour on Friday morning
The province is happy to cooperate with residents and entrepreneurs. Anyone who wishes can visit the information center on Friday morning between 9:00 and 12:00 to speak with a province employee. The information center is located in the parking lot near the ice rink at Panserweg 8 and 9 in Zoutkamp.
