The province will continue over the next four years to expand a knowledge economy with room for innovation. It stimulates the creation of new companies emerging from Groningen knowledge institutions, even if this requires significant time and research. Think of complex technology to develop new products (deep tech). Examples include the bioplastic factory Avantium in the port of Delfzijl, chemical company BioBTX which produces new raw materials from waste, and the development of a test location for CO2 reuse. Here companies can test technologies on a small scale to reduce emissions and then further develop them.
Future-proof labor market and strong business climate
The province ensures sufficient space for companies to establish themselves and works on the conditions for existing companies to remain here. Thanks to funds from the National Program Groningen and the Just Transition Fund, there is room for retraining and upskilling projects for 750 participants. Education and the labor market are better aligned for improved student flow. Extra attention is given to vocational education (MBO), as future skilled workers are trained there.
Circular economy
The development of innovative projects that make our economy circular and future-proof continues. A good example of a circular project is Care2Change, in which we work with partners to reduce hospital waste. We also support companies so they can earn more money with circular entrepreneurship, among others through the association Circulair Groningen Drenthe.
Improving competitiveness
With this program, we work not only on the economic growth of companies but also on improving the regions competitiveness. There is a lot of capital and knowledge we want to retain. At the same time, we open the door to the modern economy. We do this by stimulating new business models, such as AI and deep tech, but also by facilitating startups and connecting them.
Collaboration
For the implementation of the program, the province works closely with entrepreneurs, companies, and educational institutions. Approximately €3.5 million is available annually for advice, projects, and subsidies. The province drives new developments seeking collaboration with, for example, the Economic Agenda of Nij Begun and with national and European funds.
