The Limburg MBO institutions Yuverta and Gilde Opleidingen have jointly developed the digital course package Circular Economy. Before starting, they conducted a baseline measurement together with VISTA College among students, teachers, and companies to map the needs around the circular economy.

Connecting with the Business Sector

Deputy Stephan Satijn (Economy): With this initiative, Limburg MBOs demonstrate how the development of the circular economy can be stimulated in a practical and accessible way. They have also considered what SMEs need so that education aligns well with practice.

Deputy Elianne Demollin-Schneiders (Education): The course package prepares todays students for the jobs and challenges of tomorrow. It aligns well with the business sectors desire to have well-trained professionals, especially in circularity and sustainability.

Sharing Knowledge about Circularity

Circular economy is about reusing, repairing, and recycling materials to reduce waste streams and decrease the use of new raw materials. By widely sharing knowledge about circularity, young people are prepared for a labor market where sustainability and innovation are central. The teaching material is applicable in almost all sectors, from construction and care to agrifood, mobility, and product design.

Simone Sauren, practor Nature-Inclusive Learning at Yuverta: It is important that young people actively learn to contribute to the circular economy by getting acquainted during their education with thinking in chains, product improvements, and other innovations that they can immediately apply in practice. The beauty of this package is that it is usable for all educational levels.

Broadly Applicable

The course package is not only widely applicable within education but also beyond via Blauwgroenlespakket.nl, which makes course packages for doers and thinkers in the blue-green sector freely accessible. The modules can also be used as learning modules for professionals in companies, municipalities, and organizations, or within the Vocational Skills Agenda MBO Limburg and the CEL4LIFE project.
