The conference seamlessly aligns with Limburgs policy on honoring and commemorating, eighty years of freedom, and the lasting value of democracy in our daily lives. Limburg looks back on its role in history with highlights such as the national start of May 5, 2024, in Roermond, the royal visit to Mesch during the commemoration of liberation, and the national pilot project Princes Day in the region. But the focus is also on the present and the future: freedom and democracy are not self-evident and require ongoing attention and effort.
Center for Dialogue on Freedom and Democracy
Deputy Elianne Demollin (Administrative Relations) is proud of the conference being awarded to Limburg: “It is an honor that our province will be the European center for dialogue on freedom and democracy next year. In Limburg, we know how important it is to remember, but also how to build together a future where democracy and freedom are paramount. Especially in times of uncertainty and change, it is essential that we continue to strive to preserve these values.”
The conference will address several themes arising from the policy framework Province in the community. This includes topics such as administrative renewal, youth participation, and citizen knowledge.
Exchange of Experiences
The program of the conference will take further shape in the coming months. There will be room for debate, exchange of experiences, and visits to historical sites such as the American cemetery in Margraten. This way, Limburg connects its rich past to the challenges and opportunities for society today and tomorrow.
