Shared Direction
The museum vision was developed following the recommendations from the 2024 Provincial Museums Visitation Report. This independent report provided recommendations for both the museums and the Province. The museum vision contributes to a shared direction for a sustainable foundation. Deputy Jasper Kuntzelaers (Culture and Heritage): “The Provincial museums are of great value to Limburg. They carry our history, culture, and identity. Through their exhibitions and activities, they make art, science, and technology accessible to young and old. With this vision, we choose a clear direction for the future. We do this by joining forces and building a healthy foundation. This ensures that museums in Limburg can further develop, while also contributing to the Limburg identity and keeping the story of our province alive.”
Provincial Ambition
The museum vision sets a multi-year provincial ambition for a sustainable foundation at the provincial museums. The vision includes three principles for our three provincial museums:
- Unique identity and recognizable contribution to Limburg society
- Broad impact
- A wide range of offerings for a diverse audience
To realize these principles, six guiding principles have been established:
- Digital accessibility and availability
- Sustainable collection preservation and professional collection management
- Collection mobility and reflection on collection composition
- Sustainable and well-accessible museum buildings
- Healthy, transparent, and future-oriented management
- Stronger collaboration.
In addition to these substantive principles, it is proposed to structurally increase the provincial contributions to the three museums from 2026 by € 2,395,000.
The museum vision and proposal will be discussed on February 6 in the Provincial States meeting.
Deputy Jasper Kuntzelaers (Culture and Heritage): “I am extremely proud of the proposal that is on the table. With this, we will continue to commit ourselves in the coming years to a strong and versatile cultural infrastructure in Limburg. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this multi-year museum vision very much! Your contribution is greatly appreciated and ensures that we have a beautiful future perspective for our provincial museums.”
