The cooperation agreement forms the basis for a multi-year collaboration between the seven municipalities of Midden-Limburg (Echt-Susteren, Leudal, Maasgouw, Nederweert, Roerdalen, Roermond, and Weert) and the Province of Limburg regarding the implementation of the Regio Deal.
Forty Million
The parties confirm their joint commitment to strengthen Midden-Limburg based on the four pillars of the Regio Deal. These are (1) livability, (2) landscape & climate adaptation, (3) economy-labor market-education, and (4) regional cooperation. The Regio Deal Midden-Limburg has forty million euros to spend. This money comes from the national government, the Province, and the seven municipalities. The joint plans are taking shape and are now leading to the first concrete projects.
Deputy Elianne Demollin-Schneiders emphasizes the importance of collaboration: “It provides a solid foundation to realize our joint ambitions. It is an example of how we make a difference regionally. The Regio Deal is aimed at structural strengthening that impacts the overall prosperity of the entire region. It also contributes to a sustainable improvement of the living, working, and living environment for the residents, businesses, and education in Midden-Limburg.”
Projects
The first projects of the Regio Deal can now start. These focus on the pillars of economy-labor market-education and landscape & climate adaptation. Aldermen Martijn van den Heuvel (Weert) and Dirk Franssen (Roermond) are the regional political leaders of the Regio Deal.
Van den Heuvel: “With this signing, we are taking an important step towards a stronger Midden-Limburg. The first projects that are now starting show that we are not only making plans but also actually executing them. We do this to make Midden-Limburg even better for our residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors. I am proud of the effort we are making for a future-proof region where economy, education, and climate go hand in hand.”
Franssen adds: “With the Regio Deal, we are specifically investing in the region and addressing a number of important challenges. We do this not only on paper but precisely with projects that are visible and tangible for our residents and entrepreneurs. We also need the creativity and support of our partners because we cannot do this alone. Collaboration pays off, and with that, we will build a stronger and more attractive Midden-Limburg in the coming years.”
