The Lead Markets working group - chaired by the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth (KGG) - advises the European Commission on future legislation and regulations for the chemical sector. The focus is on accelerating the transition to sustainable, innovative, and competitive chemistry in Europe. The participation aligns seamlessly with the provincial ambitions in sustainable chemistry as expressed in Limburgs Commitment for Sustainable Chemelot.

The Province of Limburg, together with partners such as Chemelot, will provide valuable input to the Critical Chemicals Alliance. By participating in the working group, Limburg not only expands its network and knowledge but also strengthens, according to Deputy Stephan Satijn, Limburgs position as a leading innovation region within Europe. “Participation in the European Lead Markets working group offers Limburg and the Netherlands the opportunity to actively contribute to sustainable policy for the chemical sector. This not only strengthens our innovative position but also creates new market opportunities for our region and the entire country. By collaborating with European partners, we ensure that Limburgs chemistry is future-proof and contributes to a strong, sustainable, and competitive economy.”

In the coming period, the Province will work with relevant partners to shape its role within the working group and contribute to innovative and sustainable chemical policy at the European level.
