The action plan titled ‘This is how labor migration works for everyone’ also receives support from various other municipalities including Eindhoven, Venlo, and the province of South Holland. They urge the new cabinet to ensure through the coalition agreement that labor migration works for everyone in the future. The goal is to truly make a difference for labor migrants and society. The action plan focuses on realizing fair labor conditions, quality housing, and firmly combating exploitation. Deputy Van Caldenberg: “Labor migrants are currently too often confronted with poor living conditions and vulnerable working circumstances, leading to social problems such as nuisance and homelessness, including in Limburg.”

Urgency and necessity of an integrated approach

The action plan builds on analyses and recommendations from reports by the Roemer Commission and the Migration Advisory Council, emphasizing the urgency and necessity of an integrated approach where cooperation at all levels is central. The initiators jointly state that labor migration contributes positively to the Dutch economy, provided a future-proof system is established.

Structural cooperation and clear agreements

Deputy Van Caldenberg explains: “Labor migrants play an important role in our countrys economy, but the current system leaves too many people out in the cold. Structural cooperation and clear agreements are necessary to prevent abuses and to enable labor migrants to fully participate in our society. This is the moment for the cabinet to make choices and work together with local governments to make a difference, so that labor migration truly works for everyone.”

Equal opportunities and a safe future

With the submitted plan, the municipalities and provinces call on Members of Parliament to place labor migration high on the agenda during the upcoming coalition negotiations and to ensure policies that not only contribute to the economy but especially to equal opportunities and a safe future for labor migrants and the involved municipalities and provinces. “Only with direction, courage, and joint effort can labor migration be organized sustainably,” said the deputy.
