Opportunities for the Limburg farmer

The approach also significantly contributes to nitrogen reduction through the digestion of fresh or acidified manure. This not only creates benefits for the climate but also a stronger future perspective for farmers. They benefit from lower manure disposal costs, a clean fertilizer, and savings on synthetic fertilizers. By collaborating in collectives, it also becomes possible for smaller farmers to engage in these sustainable innovations.

Jasper Kuntzelaers (Deputy Agriculture): “This approach shows how Limburg agriculture can contribute to a cleaner environment and a stronger earning model. By investing together in green gas, new energy is created, emissions are reduced, and more future perspective is provided for our farmers. This is good for the climate, good for the farmer, and good for Limburg.

Next steps

Marc van Caldenberg (Deputy Energy) talks about the next steps of this approach: “The provincial government wants to further develop the approach through the Provincial Energy Services Company (PEM) to accelerate the energy transition through public-private cooperation and reduce dependence on external energy.
