Reuse of Two Bicycle Bridges

The cycling connection is realized by placing two existing bicycle bridges over the N281-N300 traffic junction. The bridges are fully renovated and widened, connecting via two separate cycle paths to the existing cycling infrastructure. For the construction, two bicycle bridges freed up by the A2 widening are used.

Sustainable Mobility

Currently, the business parks Avantis and Trilandis are mainly accessible by car. This new cycling connection also makes the area more accessible and attractive for cyclists. “A great step for sustainable mobility in the province,” says Deputy Jasper Kuntzelaers (Mobility). “Moreover, this connection improves the health, livability, and safety of our Limburg residents. By investing in safe and comfortable cycling infrastructure, we encourage more people to cycle to work, school, or during leisure time.

Alderman Marco Peters (Mobility, Heerlen municipality) emphasizes the importance of the through-cycle route for the regional economy: “This through-cycle route not only strengthens daily mobility but also the economic power of the cluster around Avantis and Trilandis. Good accessibility is a prerequisite for a future-proof economy. By better connecting employees, education, and businesses, we increase the areas attractiveness and create space for further growth and innovation for the entire region.
