National Contribution to Local Train Services
The national contribution to the two local train services – between Roermond and Maastricht and between Sittard and Heerlen – is confirmed in a collective letter to the House of Representatives. Until 2024, the national government contributed €6 million annually per local train service. This contribution is now extended by 2 years and increased to €7 million per year due to price increases. The national government and the region will continue discussions on a structural solution for this contribution.
Deputy Jasper Kuntzelaers (Public Transport): “The agreement on the national contribution for the local trains is essential for Limburg. This allows us to maintain public transport in Limburg at the current level and continue our efforts for an accessible region. I am pleased that we have made this agreement with the ministry. It is an important step towards structural agreements.”
