Great Success
The Incentive Scheme for Supra-Local Events 2025-2027 has proven to be a great success. Due to the high number of applications, the subsidy ceiling for 2025 was already reached early before the end of the year. With this scheme, an association or foundation with a voluntary board can apply for a subsidy for an event in the field of (folk) culture and sports with a supra-local appeal. These are events that attract visitors and participants from outside their own local community and are intended for a broad audience. Deputy Jasper Kuntzelaers (Culture and Heritage) emphasizes the importance of this scheme: “Supra-local events are indispensable for Limburg culture. By providing extra support to associations and foundations, we invest not only in culture and sports but also in the connection between our communities and the attractiveness of Limburg. This way, we continue building a vibrant province for and by Limburgers.”
Increase and Extension
The subsidy ceiling will be increased by €250,000 per year to €570,000. Additionally, the scheme will be extended until January 30, 2029. With the extra available budget, both the already submitted applications and those that follow and meet the criteria can be granted. Deputy Marc van Caldenberg (Social Agenda and Sports) states: “With this adjustment, we will continue to enable supra-local events organized by Limburg volunteer organizations until 2028. Annually, we can support about 200 to 250 events with this scheme. This ensures that people meet and do things together. Sports play an important role: it brings people together and improves the health of our Limburgers.”
