Insight into Your Own Risk Within One Minute

The Water Level Indicator is an online tool that is easy to use via the website Water Level Indicator (links to another website) (opens external website). After entering their postal code and house number, Limburg residents receive an indication of how high the water can reach their home during extreme weather. They receive practical advice on measures to prevent or limit damage. The advice is accessible, concrete, and shows that being better prepared does not have to be complicated. Residents also see examples of measures other Limburgers have already taken, to inspire and activate them.

Josette Van Wersch, director of Waterschap Limburg: The summer of 2021 is forever etched in my memory. As a resident of South Limburg, I experienced the consequences of the high water up close. It made me realize how vulnerable we can be, even when we think it wont happen to us. Thats why I urge everyone to fill in the Water Level Indicator. In one minute, you know the risk your home faces and the steps you can take to limit damage. Dont wait for water: take action now.

Campaign Encourages Awareness and Action

With the launch of the Water Level Indicator, an awareness campaign begins among all Limburg residents. The campaign works in three steps: first, residents gain insight into their own risk; next, Limburgers share their experiences and the measures they can take themselves. Finally, people are encouraged to take immediate action to better protect their homes.

Working Together for a Water-Safer Limburg

The Water Level Indicator is a product of Water Safety and Space Limburg (WRL), a collaboration between the Province of Limburg, Waterschap Limburg, the national government, and all Limburg municipalities. After the severe floods in July 2021, these organizations joined forces in the WRL program to better protect Limburg against water nuisance.
The program focuses on the additional measures needed to make the regional water system, the tributaries and streams of the Meuse, future-proof. Meanwhile, ongoing projects by municipalities, the water board, and other parties continue as usual.
