The Province of North Brabant has provided the 12 areas of the area-oriented approach (GGA) with more clarity about the possibilities for implementing their plans. It is now clear which projects the province can partly enable from the available financial resources and capacity. This is an important step to work on the challenges for water, soil, and air in the rural area of Brabant. The focus is now on reaching concrete agreements with the area partners so that the first projects can start as soon as possible.

What’s next?

After the initial assessment in mid-2025, all involved parties have worked hard to further develop the project proposals. In close coordination, it was examined which projects have priority, whether there is sufficient (prospect of) capacity to execute the projects on time, and how the available resources can best be used. The coming period focuses on reaching concrete agreements: agreements on financing and cooperation. After that, the areas can start implementing the projects.

Approach to Rural Areas

With the Approach to Rural Areas (ALG), Brabant stays on course for the legal goals regarding nature, water, and climate in conjunction with a sustainable perspective for agriculture. With a focus on implementation in the 12 GGA areas.
Since 2021, Brabant has been working intensively in the GGA with other organizations on a strong rural area in Brabant. Province, water boards, municipalities, land management organizations such as Staatsbosbeheer and Natuurmonumenten, private landowners, the agricultural sector, and other stakeholders are looking for smart combinations of solutions to bring water, soil, and air into order. So that nature can recover and agriculture retains a future perspective. With the Approach to Rural Areas, Brabant now takes a step further and accelerates the implementation of existing and new plans.
