New and significantly improved bus and train stations in Den Bosch and Eindhoven are a big step closer. The province, together with the national government and the involved municipalities, has reached agreement on the so-called preferred alternatives and made further agreements about financing.
That and more is the outcome of the Administrative Consultation on the Multi-Year Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Transport Program in The Hague, abbreviated as BO MIRT. This is an annual meeting where the national government and various regions make agreements about investments in accessibility for the coming years. Due to the caretaker status of the cabinet, the consultation took place a few months later than usual this time.
This is a very nice result, says deputy Stijn Smeulders. Slowly but surely, the outlines of the brand new stations in Eindhoven and Den Bosch are becoming visible: the two busiest public transport hubs in our province. These two stations are currently actually too small for the number of passengers using them. With the agreements made this week, Brabant can grow and space will be created to build many homes near important facilities. This makes the train and bus attractive for even more Brabanders. This is extra important in a time when our cities are growing rapidly and our roads are becoming increasingly crowded.
Millions for public transport hubs
With Bosch Central, ’s-Hertogenbosch will get a completely new station, in which the old one is virtually incorporated. An eighth platform will be added and platform 6/7 will be widened. The bus station and bicycle parking will be greatly expanded and attractive squares will be created on both sides of the public transport hub. About €190 million was still needed to realize the plans. The national government, the province, municipality, NS and ProRail have now made agreements about the distribution of these costs.
In Eindhoven, a fully sunken bus station has been chosen with space for more than 30 stops, a large indoor bicycle parking facility and a new station building on the north side. There will be an internal transfer possibility from bus to train. This choice creates space for urban development near the station. The total project budget for the multimodal node around Eindhoven Central amounts to more than one billion euros. Furthermore, the national government and region have updated the agreements from the BO Brainport. This provides a look ahead to plans in the region until 2040.
Future of the Brabant railway
Work is also being done on the future of the Brabant railway outside Eindhoven and ’s-Hertogenbosch. At the beginning of 2026, the municipality of Tilburg will start the in-depth study into the future development of Tilburg University station. In close cooperation between the national government, the province of North Brabant, ProRail and NS, it will be worked out which adjustments to the station are appropriate for future growth in transport demand. This follow-up study will provide decision information to determine which steps are appropriate for the future development of the station at the BO Leefomgeving in spring or the BO MIRT in autumn 2026.
In addition, new agreements have been made about cooperation around truck parkings and realization pacts for the freight hubs Tilburg and Moerdijk. Also about a mitigating package for the A67 between Leenderheide and Geldrop. For the latter, €42 million has been agreed upon, intended to improve safety, livability and flow now that the national government has paused the major approach to the highway. The national government pays half of that €42 million, the region the other half. To the disappointment of the province, the national government is not yet open to a similar package of measures for the A50. Discussions on this continue.
These new agreements should not be confused with the so-called WoMo funds. At the end of 2025, the national government already pledged €526 million to Brabant municipalities in this context, intended to properly develop new residential areas.
