The Province of North Brabant is increasing the budget for the successful flex pool scheme by €2.2 million. Thanks to these additional funds, ongoing housing projects in Brabant can be accelerated, allowing the province to maintain momentum in realizing new homes. This is urgently needed, as the demand for affordable and suitable housing in Brabant is high. So far, the flex pool scheme has accelerated 283 housing projects in Brabant.
The flex pool scheme supports municipalities with additional capacity and expertise to get housing projects off the ground faster. The scheme is very popular; the budget for the third tranche was reached earlier than planned. To prevent projects from being delayed or halted, the province is now raising the subsidy ceiling to a total of €7.7 million.
“Brabant will need many new homes in the coming years. Municipalities are working hard on this, but extra implementation capacity is indispensable. With this increase, we ensure that projects do not stall and that we can continue building a Brabant where everyone can live comfortably.” – Wilma Dirken, Deputy of Space and Housing
Strong boost for housing construction
Since 2023, the scheme has already made an important contribution to accelerating housing construction in Brabant:
- First tranche: €3,914,539 subsidy → acceleration of 15,575 homes (78 projects)
- Second tranche: €6,028,788 subsidy →184 homes (114 projects)
- Third tranche: so far €5,168,130 subsidy →298 homes (91 projects)
Due to high demand, the current subsidy ceiling has been reached. Although formally a limited space remains within the current subsidy ceiling of €5.5 million, the scheme is considered exhausted because applications are processed in order of receipt according to the rules. Currently, there is an application that exceeds the remaining available budget of the subsidy scheme. After raising the subsidy ceiling, this application and subsequent applications can be processed.
Outlook
The national government has not yet announced a fourth tranche of the national flex pool scheme. Brabant therefore continues to focus on progress and actively seeks ways to maintain implementation capacity. The province remains in dialogue with the national government on this matter.
