Provincial States have decided to recommend Ina Adema for a second term as Kings Commissioner in North Brabant. Members of the States emphasize, among other things, her connecting qualities and her clear and reliable leadership.

With conviction

Provincial States recommend the commissioner to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), Pieter Heerma. The minister then makes a nomination to the King, who then decides on the reappointment. The chairman of the confidence committee, Jan Frans Brouwers, states that the commissioner has shown in her first term that she represents Brabant with conviction and a sense of proportion. “She connects administrators, organizations and residents, keeps an overview in complex dossiers and brings calm with her clear and reliable style. Provincial States see in her a commissioner who strongly and visibly represents Brabant and who fulfills her role with decisiveness and a sense of society,” says Brouwers.

Fundamental

Ina Adema considers it an honor that the States recommend her for reappointment. “The trust of Provincial States in my functioning is fundamental. I am therefore honored with this recommendation for reappointment. And I am happy that I can further shape and give content to my role as commissioner. Brabant is an innovative, challenging and powerful province with a beautiful mix of thinkers and doers. I feel at home here and will continue to work together with others – in the province and beyond – to make Brabant even better,” says Adema. In addition to being Kings Commissioner, she is chairman of the Interprovincial Consultation (IPO) and thus an important face on behalf of the joint provinces in, for example, The Hague.

The procedure

  • Ina Adema was installed as Kings Commissioner on October 2, 2020.
  • Her current term expires on October 1, 2026.
  • Provincial States must make a recommendation to the Minister of BZK no later than four months before the end of the term.
  • On November 7, 2025, a confidence committee was established, consisting of ten members of the States.
  • The confidence committee spoke with the commissioner about her vision for the future of the province and assessed her performance against the original profile description.
  • On March 13, 2026, Provincial States discussed the findings and advice of the confidence committee in a closed meeting.
  • Provincial States then made a public decision on the recommendation; the underlying documents remain confidential.
  • The recommendation to the minister reads: “Provincial States of North Brabant recommend Ms. I.R. Adema for reappointment as Kings Commissioner in the province of North Brabant.”
  • The recommendation goes to the Minister of BZK.
  • The minister then submits the recommendation to the King, who then decides on the appointment.
  • Once the King and minister have signed the decision, the reappointment is final.
  • The swearing-in takes place before October 1, 2026, so that the new term immediately follows.
