With support from the Province of North Brabant, the municipality of Roosendaal is transforming theater De Kring into an energy-producing building. This marks significant progress in the sustainability and future-proofing of public real estate. The municipality shares the knowledge and experience gained with other (small) municipalities, in collaboration with the province and the Brabant Development Company (BOM).
Theater De Kring becomes energy-producing
During the renovation of theater De Kring (refers to another website), the municipality of Roosendaal is making a big effort. The theater is not only being renovated, greened, and made more sustainable, but even transformed into an energy-producing building. Thanks to the innovative thermal panels installed on the theater tower, De Kring becomes a heat and energy source for the surrounding area.
The thermal panels capture more heat than needed for the theaters use. Under the name De EnergieKring, the panels also supply heat to the adjacent Tongerlohuys museum and the Sint-Janskerk.
During a visit to the works, Deputy Bas Maes and alderman Klaar Koenraad saw how this innovative project combines energy saving with heat generation and demonstrates how smart sustainability makes a difference.
Coaching for other municipalities
The municipality of Roosendaal is happy to share the knowledge and experience gained with other municipalities that want to make their public real estate more sustainable. Together with the Province of North Brabant and BOM, the municipality therefore offers coaching to (small) municipalities that also want to make a similar building more sustainable.

Support from the province
Through the ‘Composite Project 3’ (SP3) program, the Province of North Brabant offered municipalities financial and organizational support and knowledge until the end of 2024 aimed at accelerating the sustainability of, among other things, public real estate and homes. The most successful results from SP3 receive renewed support from the province in the follow-up program SP3 (OSP3) towards the actual implementation of the project. The EnergieKring of the municipality of Roosendaal is one of these frontrunners receiving support from the province and BOM in the coming years.
