Environmental organization Mobilisation for the Environment (MOB) has withdrawn its appeals against the nature and environmental permit of FrieslandCampina in Veghel. This follows the adjustment of the permit and agreements between parties to significantly reduce the factorys ammonia emissions.

The agreements require the company to install scrubbers, which reduce ammonia (NH₃) emissions by over 85 percent. The Province of North Brabant has tightened the emission standard in the environmental permit to 5 mg/Nm³ on June 1, 2026 (the national standard mandatory from 2028) and to 2 mg/Nm3 in January 2028. After this permit adjustment, MOB has stopped its procedures.

Deputy Saskia Boelema (permit issuance, supervision and enforcement): “The significant reduction in ammonia emissions really makes a difference. As a province, we are pleased that involved parties have reached concrete solutions through constructive consultation. FrieslandCampina is taking a strong step forward. This significant reduction is an important step for our nature and for reducing nitrogen pressure in Brabant.”

With the installation of the scrubbers, FrieslandCampina Veghel disappears from the top 10 industrial ammonia emitters. With the withdrawal of the appeals, a legal dispute that has been ongoing since 2022 comes to an end.
