Wildfires do not stop at national borders. Due to climate change and drought, the risk of large-scale wildfires is increasing.

In the border areas between Flanders and North Brabant, many nature reserves overlap and many regions are densely populated. This means that social damage and the consequences for people, nature, and infrastructure can be significant.

To prevent and/or control wildfires, cross-border cooperation is essential. Therefore, Dutch and Flemish partners have joined forces. This includes land managers, nature organizations, emergency services such as the fire brigade, and governments. They exchange knowledge, experience, and insights and work together on one plan and one approach.

The cooperation between Flemish-Dutch partners and parties takes place under the Interreg project Wildfire Management Flanders-Netherlands. Funding from the European Union makes this project possible. This way, we increase our resilience against wildfires and protect people and nature on both sides of the border.
