On Thursday, October 2, 2025, Deputy Saskia Boelema unveiled an impressive skeleton in the hall of the provincial house: Aurora, a rare and gigantic Diplodocus skeleton that is no less than 150 million years old and over 20 meters long! One of the largest and most remarkable finds ever seen in the Netherlands.
At the festive unveiling, two elementary school classes were also present. A student was allowed to attach the last missing part – the left foot – to the skeleton together with Saskia. Thus, the unveiling was officially complete!
The assembly of Aurora was quite a task, thanks to the enthusiastic volunteers from the National Prehistoric Museum, who contributed with great dedication and were, of course, also present at the unveiling.
With this spectacular find, the province, together with the museum, aims to stimulate interest in science, natural history, and heritage – especially among children and students. Because culture, heritage, and leisure are indispensable for Brabant. The province is happy to contribute through cultural subsidies and also by opening the House for Brabant for this purpose.
Aurora can be admired in the hall of the provincial house until November 10 on weekdays.
