The shovel is in the ground for the construction of 3 cycle routes in Best. Through three new connections, thousands of commuters will soon be quickly at their destination. This involves the construction of 2 fast and safe cycling connections to Eindhoven and a connection along the Wilhelmina Canal to Oirschot and Son. On October 8, during
an opening event, the signal was given to start the construction of the cycling routes.
“We are starting the construction of the F2 in Bosseweg,” says Alderman Jan Willem Slijper of the municipality of Best. Starting next year, other sections of the F2 and F58 along the canal will also be implemented. In some locations, we still need to go through spatial procedures, which requires a bit more preparation time.
“Next year we will also realize the Shuttle Route,” explains Alderman Robert Strijk of the municipality of Eindhoven. “This is the connection between the industrial estates Breeven in Best and GDC Acht in Eindhoven. And we are starting the construction of sections of the F2 on Eindhovens territory. Soon you will cycle from Best via the Achtse Barrier to the center of Eindhoven.” Throughout Brabant, the province is working on a network of fast cycling routes. These are comfortable, wide
and safe bike paths where you cycle from A to B with as few obstacles as possible. In this way, the (electric) bike is becoming a good alternative to the car for more and more Brabanders. “Last summer, we announced the largest investment ever in fast cycling routes here in Best,” says Deputy Stijn Smeulders (mobility). “That is why it is very special to be here again now that the first shovel for these routes is going into the ground. Brabant is an excellent cycling province. Our cities are relatively close to each other, at distances that are certainly manageable with the electric bike. Especially in the rapidly growing Brainport region, it is important that we provide an attractive alternative to the car with cycling. That is what we are doing with these routes.”
