The Provincial Executive of North Brabant presents today a multi-year balanced budget for 2026 with a volume of over € 1.5 billion. The provincial government chooses a steadfast approach to the major social challenges.
The budget builds on the administrative agreement Together we make Brabant! and aligns with the implementation agendas up to and including 2027. We have really made progress in the past year, says Deputy Martijn van Gruijthuijsen (Economy, Talent Development, and Finance). We need to maintain that pace. Only by continuing to execute can we make Brabant a little better every day.
The province invests together with Brabant partners in mobility, nature, water, vital cities and villages, and innovation. In and around twelve nitrogen-sensitive Natura 2000 areas, work is being done on area visions and implementation, with the goal of keeping Brabant open. The Green-Blue Area-Oriented Approach (GGA) is leading in this. In addition, the province focuses on restoring the water system, including ensuring the drinking water supply.
Brabant is actively preparing for the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) of the European Commission and is focusing on optimally utilizing opportunities for the region. In 2026, the province will therefore develop strategic plans to attract European subsidies that contribute to economic and social ambitions.
The absence of a ministerial cabinet makes the national course uncertain. The Province of North Brabant remains alert and flexible. Brabant takes up the challenge, but we expect the national government to take responsibility as well, says Van Gruijthuijsen. The challenges we face require sufficient and structural financial space.
The Provincial Council will discuss the budget on November 7 and 14. The full budget can be found at brabant.nl/begroting.
