On Thursday, December 11, 2025, several members of the Provincial States received a letter at their home address from a bailiff on behalf of the Farmers Defence Force Association. The letter states that members supporting the proposal on, among other things, ammonia emission requirements in livestock farming would be complicit in an unlawful act or even a criminal offense.

Approaching and intimidating representatives at home is completely unacceptable and intolerable. We must be able to do our work freely and without hindrance, even when making difficult and impactful decisions.

Having differences of opinion and engaging in robust debate is part of an open society. Intimidation is not. It undermines the sense of security of representatives and the democratic process. Therefore, we condemn this intimidating action.

As commissioner, I would like to add that I have respect and appreciation for the work of our Provincial States members and fully endorse this statement.

Sincerely,
