Commissioner of the King, Arthur van Dijk, swore in Robert van Rijn as mayor of Laren on Monday, February 16, 2026. The appointment is for 6 years.
Van Rijn (48 years old) was until recently director of the Media College in Amsterdam. From 2018 to 2023, he was alderman and deputy mayor in Aalsmeer. He was responsible for finance, economy, work and income, and tourism there. Previously, he was a supervisor, manager, director, executive, and advisor in the public sector and is a reserve officer (major) in the Royal Netherlands Army.
Van Rijn studied Dutch Law at the University of Amsterdam and Leiden University.
