As of Friday evening, July 11, the Burgervlotbrug is back in use.
The repair work and the assembly of the floating bridge on-site have been completed, and the bridge has been extensively tested. The bridge control center in Heerhugowaard can operate the bridge again.
The Burgervlotbrug was severely damaged in early March when an overweight vehicle drove over the bridge. All components have been checked by area contractor Waaksaam on behalf of the province of North Holland in recent months and repaired or even newly produced where necessary. Since the bridge was not in its place for the past few months, maintenance work that was actually planned for later this year was carried out immediately. These works did not lead to a longer execution, so the bridge does not need to be closed again at a later time.
About the Burgervlotbrug
The Burgervlotbrug is one of the 5 floating bridges in the province of North Holland. They are monuments that only allow traffic with a weight of up to 9 or 12 tons. Overweight vehicles can cause blockages. They disrupt the sensors, causing malfunctions and leading to faster wear and deviations in the bridge.
