Kings Commissioner Arthur van Dijk was welcomed on October 30 by Mayor Mark Pol during his official visit to the municipality of Texel.
Van Dijk spoke with the college of mayor and aldermen about current administrative issues, the resilience of local government, and the necessity of good cooperation on the island. Topics such as accessibility, housing, livability, and future-proofing were also discussed.
Sheep Farm
During the meeting at a sheep farm, there was ample opportunity to discuss the value of social initiatives and cooperation on the island together with various organizations. Through broad representation from involved parties in society, the commissioner gained a good understanding of what is alive and happening. At the end of the afternoon, there was a substantive conversation with council members about current themes such as resilience, cooperation, future-proofing, and accessibility.
Unique Island Mentality
Van Dijk: “Texel and its inhabitants distinguish themselves by their unique island mentality; resilient, closely connected to nature, and proud of their rich traditions and cooperation within the community. It was a day full of insights, engaged meetings, and valuable conversations. Wonderful to see how connected an island is. Thanks to all conversation partners for their openness and hospitality, and good luck in the coming period!”.
