On Tuesday evening, October 28, an information meeting will be held about the development of the port of Den Helder.
During this meeting, 4 topics will be explained. Interested parties can ask questions and give their feedback.
Concept sketch design for the Het Nieuwe Diep/Nieuwe Werk area
The municipality of Den Helder is investigating how the Nieuwe Diep/Nieuwe Werk area should be adapted when the Moorman Bridge is relocated and a new bridge (Ravelijn Bridge) is built. During the meeting, a first sketch will be presented of how the area could look. Residents can respond to this for further elaboration. The sketch design is expected to be ready in the first half of 2026.
Proposal for the Willemsoord navigation route
Last summer, a study was presented on the possibilities for a fixed navigation route through Willemsoord. This is beneficial for the accessibility of the Willemsoord marina for recreational boating. During the walk-in evening, a preferred variant will be presented. The route is intended for pleasure craft and connects the city with the water without obstructing the seaport. The preferred variant will be submitted to the municipal council in December 2025.
Spatial Framework Buitenveld
Buitenveld is an area near Willemsoord and the Royal Netherlands Naval College (KIM) in Den Helder. The area is being developed as a modern and sustainable accommodation location for Royal Navy personnel. During the walk-in meeting, visitors will receive information about rules for safety, traffic, parking, and new functions such as buildings and facilities for Defense. The plans will be submitted to the municipal council in December 2025.
Approach to the planning procedure
During the meeting, it will be explained how the program team will proceed with planning procedures and environmental impact assessment procedures. This approach plan is called the Scope and Level of Detail Memorandum (NRD). The NRD is expected to be issued as a draft by the executive boards of the municipal executive and the Provincial Executive at the end of this year, allowing everyone to submit views before it is finalized.

The information meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 28 at Theater de Kampanje, Willemsoord 63 in Den Helder. Walk-in from 7:15 PM. Program starts at 7:30 PM. Closing at 9:30 PM.
