The N247 between Monnickendam and Volendam is open again. The road was closed for the past 4 weeks. A significant but necessary closure.

During those 4 weeks, hard work was done. The asphalt of the provincial road was replaced with new asphalt, streetlights were replaced, and new installations controlling the traffic lights were installed at two intersections. Also, part of the bike path along the N247 received a fresh layer of asphalt. Additionally, 2 emergency bays were created and the roadway was separated from the bus lane. This improves traffic safety.

During busy times, motorists sometimes used the bus lane to bypass traffic jams. To prevent this, the road was slightly widened to create space for a clear separation. Black and white blocks now mark the distinction between the bus lane and the car lane. The result: buses can always pass through, even during traffic jams on the N247. This makes public transport more reliable and the traffic situation safer for everyone.

Work continues on the underside of the bridge

The work on the bridge over the Purmer Ee will continue until the end of the year. The concrete beams of the bridge are being reinforced from underneath. This can be completed while traffic is again allowed over the bridge.

Work on the N247 near Monnickendam will continue next year. More information can be found on the project page and in the Construction App. The Construction App always contains the latest news, planning, descriptions of the work, detour routes during works, and photos.

More information and detour maps

More work is planned in the coming years on and around the N247. Think of renovation, major maintenance, and other improvements. This work is carried out by municipalities, the province, and other organizations such as the Markermeerdijken Alliance. They coordinate the work as much as possible. More information about all the work on and around the N247 can be found at www.noord-holland.nl/N247. The page is regularly updated with current information about the work and detour routes.
