For the new Velsertraverse underpass, part of the HOV Beverwijk/Velsen-Noord project, approximately 106 trees and shrubs need to be removed in January 2026.
The trees and shrubs will be fully replanted. Additionally, the best locations for replanting have been determined in consultation with the local community. A replanting plan has been developed together with residents to restore all greenery. This collaborative effort aims to build a sustainable, green environment.
Space for underpass and replanting
To make space for the Velsertraverse underpass, approximately 106 trees and shrubs will be removed starting Monday, January 5, 2026. Through a participation evening in November, the wishes of several residents around Wijkeroogpark were collected for the replanting plan. This ensures that the new greenery aligns well with what residents find important. To realize a green environment as quickly as possible, the first replanting is expected to start before April 2026. The rest will follow in the next planting season: the winter of 2026. This includes shrubs, herbs, and young trees, which naturally need time to grow into a dense, green whole.
HOV Beverwijk / Velsen-Noord: underpass and bus lanes
The province is working together with the municipalities of Beverwijk and Velsen, ProRail, and contractor Heijmans on two new bus lanes between Beverwijk and Velsen and a pedestrian and bicycle underpass beneath the Velsertraverse. The bus lanes are part of the high-quality public transport network (HOV network). The Velsertraverse underpass to be constructed offers a regional, faster cycling route connecting to Beverwijk station.
Upcoming HOV Beverwijk/Velsen-Noord walk-in meeting
As usual, the local community is closely involved in the HOV project. After the walk-in meeting in September, the next meeting is planned for early February. More information will follow soon.
