The exhibition Reflective Landscape will be on display from Friday, April 18 to Friday, July 11, 2025, at Pavilion Welgelegen in Haarlem.
The exhibition has been organized in the context of the commemoration of 80 years of freedom in the Netherlands.
Freedom
Freedom seems to be a given. Yet, in recent years, war and conflicts have come closer. The attention to what freedom means has become more relevant. 80 years of freedom leads to reflecting on the traces left by the last war in our country. How do we remember the war now that there are almost no survivors left who can tell about it? At the same time, we experience through current events how important freedom is and what we feel about it.
The guest curators Hélène Bremer and Luisa Dorsman want to create space for different ways of remembering and reflecting with the exhibition. They selected works from 7 artists; Armando, Celine van den Boorn, Jarik Jongman, Thijs Linssen, Cristina Lucas, Carla Rumpt, and Jenny Ymker. Each approaches the war past or the concept of freedom in their own way. They reflect on the traces of war and the vulnerability of freedom. They do this from different perspectives, from memories to current themes such as migration and fake news. In their work, the artists present a poignant view of how freedom is experienced and how its boundaries are guarded.
