National Pink Saturday is this year on Saturday, June 28 in Zaanstad. The province is a sponsor of the event.
This national event takes place in a different city each year and coincides this year with the Zaan Rainbow Week.
During Pink Saturday, Zaanstad transforms into one big party with a varied program for young and old. This years theme is: ‘The Zaan Region in all colors’. In the Damstraatjes, DJs will perform and on the Gedempte Gracht, visitors can enjoy music and culture at the music pavilion.
In addition to all the festivities, there is also space for meeting and awareness. Visit the information market, attend theater performances, and enjoy the colorful parade. Discover the full program Opens an external link .
Rainbow Province
North Holland is a proud rainbow province where everyone should be able to be themselves. The province has a large diversity of residents with special stories and is very proud of that.
Accessible and Sustainable
As a sponsor of National Pink Saturday, North Holland makes an important contribution to an accessible and sustainable event. Thanks to the support of the province, reusable cups are used, the event uses green energy, and there is a coordinator for sustainability. Additionally, the province enables inclusive facilities, such as a sign language interpreter, a stage with good visibility for wheelchair users, and accessible toilets.
History
Pink Saturday is the oldest Pride in the Netherlands and is celebrated every year on the last Saturday of June. This date is not coincidental: on June 28, 1969, riots broke out in New York after the police raided a gay bar. This uprising, known as the Stonewall riots, marked the beginning of the global Pride movement and led to the very first Gay Pride Parade.
