The Province of North Holland is taking measures at the Leeghwater Bridge (N242) to reduce noise pollution for local residents.

Therefore, the Leeghwater Bridge will be closed from Monday, September 15, to Saturday, September 20, between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM. During these closures, vehicular traffic will follow a detour, and the bike path will remain open.

Detour

Vehicular traffic will be redirected via the Kooimeer traffic circle, Heilooërtolweg (N9), Huiswaarderweg (N245), and Nollenweg (N508). On Saturday, September 20, at 5:00 AM, the work will be completed, and traffic will again be able to drive over the Leeghwater Bridge in the evening and night. Traffic in the opposite direction from Heerhugowaard to Alkmaar will not be hindered by the work.

Measures to Reduce Noise Pollution

Residents have been experiencing noise pollution from traffic driving over the Leeghwater Bridge for some time. The bridge deck towards Heerhugowaard vibrates when (heavy) traffic passes over it. By filling in the part where the bridge deck rests, the bridge deck will lie more stably. The province expects that this will result in less vibration, less noise production, and slower wear of components.

Additionally, the damaged joints in the bridge deck will be repaired. To measure the effect of the measures, an independent sound bureau will conduct sound and vibration measurements. Therefore, measuring equipment is set up near the bridge. Traffic has been able to safely cross the bridge all this time, but for local residents, the noise pollution is very annoying.
